The Community Center for El Lasso neighborhood is located at the top of the ravine framed by Avenida de Amurga, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The plot where it is located forms on plan a circular cap, whose straight side remains orientated to east, and it created the free public space, overlooking the sea. The access to the plot is located in the, adjacent to the set of planned parking slots. The community center is located over the East boundary, perpendicularly to the north wall, between the sea views and the inner garden.
Thus, it builds up a kind of retaining dike, which reminds of the walls constructed in the ravines to avoid their erosion. The designed building develops in two heights: the ground floor opened to the East; and the upper floor with the entrance next to the access to the plot. Such a distribution allows optimal routes between exterior and interior, providing the maximum flexibility to the use of the space. The building rests only on the first section of the north boundary, displaying the retaining wall of the avenue. The bright colors and the shadows fill the façade overlooking the sea with movement, thus turning it into a landscape of polarized light, it displays and exhibits as an active element, as a dynamic actor of the building.
The plan becomes a thick wall over which the different spaces are carved and oriented, which as photographic cameras capture snapshots of the surroundings.TECHNICAL DATA DESIGNER: Pedro Romera García, Ángela Ruiz Martínez |Romera y Ruiz Arquitectos S.L.P.| DEVELOPPER: Public COLLABORATORS: Jorge Hernández y Rocio Narbona Flores |ARQUITECTOS| STRUCTURES: Huca Arquitectura S.L.
