The design is coherent with the surroundings, the economic and social context (peripheral neighborhood in a ravine), with the climate (over-exposed latitude to UV rays), and with the requirements of the developer. Constructing in a corner plot of 43,20x13m completed the urban block, and the levels of the existing building have been connected in the northern dividing wall. The construction was executed from August until December.
The building was modulated in 1.35m slices, which is the optimal dimension for the required quick completion and conforms minimum functional working spaces. Prefabricated elements were used (series of 32 modules by 1.35=43.20m) and available local materials and construction technology were chosen (concrete, aluminium and glass).
Outside-inside interaction captures natural diffuse light, suitable for working environments, and it allows cross-air ventilation produced by trade wind, natural free air conditioning that only requires appropriate entrance and exit points. The outer face of the building ends at its façade exposed to the south, and a solution with greater thermal inertia to west wind without conductivity. The longitudinal facade remains available to be inhabited. Terrace-patios are placed as an extension to the workspace, which brings added value to the project, feeling of expansion and relation to other modules. The opaque elevation remains protected with self-projected shadows. The interior temperature is 5 to 8ºC lower than the outside temperature, no energy consumption. The building reacts to the annual temperature variations, for example, it maintains a comfortable temperature during three days of heat haze.
The spatial layout intends to bring value to the functional relations, inquiring flexible arrangements and adapting uses and spatial quality in search of a balance between minimal usable surfaces and m3 spatiality. Diagonal relations have been incorporated to offer the assumed dynamism to these programs, incubators for young entrepreneurs.
The result provides with a contrast between the gravity of the exterior and the lightness of the interior; between the projected shades of the outer face and its luminosity. It is a game between materials and space on different scales of shadow and light textures.
