The roof meets the need of creating shade and protection for children’s games. The created form draws the outer covering of the most direct routes between classrooms and accesses. The result is this kind of puzzle piece, fitted on the existing building with utmost respect, almost without touching it. From the inside, the cover shows the appearance of lightness despite of the 60m3 reinforced concrete it contains, holding a variable edge of 30 to 20 cm. The roof is suspended in order to free the playground from obstacles, minimizing the number of pillars. These metal supports, circular profiles of 114 mm x 5.4 mm section, appear coloured as a little forest, providing a chromatic game with surrounding walls. The slab-roof is anchored to the pre-existing factory with HEB-120 profiles that tighten the perimeter and its area of influence. This suspended plan changes the character of the space it covers, and achieves an expressive and unified vision of the whole. It also allows the control of the sun exposure, the rainwater and it provides more privacy to the classrooms.
